We have two major marine stewardship programs at W.S.U. Extension Clallam County. These programs are always voluntary and educational, never regulatory.
W.S.U. Beach Watchers is a volunteer training program. Volunteers in this program receive one hundred hours of top notch education from local and regional experts in fields related to the marine environment. Our volunteers are involved in a wide variety of projects. Some examples are: marine water quality sampling, seabird mortality studies, education programs at Clallam County parks, forage fish spawning beach surveys, and beach monitoring.
Shore Stewards is about preserving and enhancing wildlife habitat on your shoreline property. It is a voluntary program for shoreline landowners and landowners with shared community access to shorelines in Clallam County. Shore Stewards receive a free sixty page booklet which describes the Ten Guidelines for Shoreline Living. Any Shore Steward who pledges to adopt or continue at least three of these guidelines will receive a free yard sign, which many Shore Stewards proudly display for their friends and neighbors to see.
