- Essential reading to anyone wanting to live with or attract wildlife in this area. Covers all the local creatures from butterflies to raptors to deer, frogs, dragonflies and more. Discusses everything from landscaping to viewing tips as well as potential problems and solutions.
- Naturalistic Gardening by Ann Lovejoy, 1998, Sasquatch Books, ISBN 1-57061-120-3
- A lovely and loving introduction to what has also been described as "Pacific Northwest Style" gardening which emphasizes incorporating the natural environment and plants of the location to focus on the overall form and texture.
- Plants of the Pacific Northwest Coast by Jim Pojar and Andy MacKinnon, 1994, Lone Pine Publishing, ISBN 1-55105-040-4
- The basic handbook for identifying native and naturalized plants for the area. Each plant description includes a color photograph, its range and habitat along with notes about its uses and unique characteristics. An excellent field guide for naturalists and reference to gardeners on what grows naturally in this area.

- Center for Urban Horticulture – University of Washington College of Forest Resources
- The Center for Urban Horticulture conducts a wide variety of adult education programs including lectures, courses, demonstrations, studios and symposia, plus a variety of tours, as well as youth and family programs, primarily through the Washington Park Arboretum.
- Heronswood Nursery
- This world famous nursery offers limited number of seminars for adults and youth, but they sell out quickly so check often and early. Schedules for the coming year are posted in late November or December.
